Fremont Art Walk: Pirouette’s Karyn Elizabeth Gold

You already know her from her absolutely scrumptious aromatherapy soaps and perfumes. And you also know that her gorgeous handmade paper wrapping is just as enticing as her come-hither scents, so it should come as no surprise that the very talented Karyn Elizabeth Gold is an accomplished artist as well.

For tomorrow’s First Friday Art Walk, we’ll be featuring her wonderful photography and collage work (and of course, a feast a Pirouette products). Her images of objects and nature hover somewhere in between dreams and reality, that peaceful and innocent space where we all wish we could spend a little more time. To get as much of it in as we can, we’ll be keeping our doors open until 9pm!
Come have an evening stroll around the neighborhood and relax with a glass of wine with Karyn. And don’t forget: Our Thumbs Up Contest is still on! There’s a $250 Show Pony gift certificate just waiting for its rightful owner.

Welcome, Lucky Fish! + Thumbs Up Contest

From South Africa via Brooklyn we are pleased to welcome Lucky Fish into the store, a line of screenprinted tees who’s story is as engaging as their bold metallic designs. These aren’t your ordinary screenprints—think all-over patterns like diamonds, lace, and butterflies that emerged from a cocoon of pure gold. The inks are shiny and eye-catching metallics: gold, silver and copper with a smooth texture we love, especially the way it contrasts with the soft burnout material it’s printed on.

As for the background, Jann began printing while growing up in South Africa during the Apartheid era, sometimes displaying protest slogans, other times, just the fashions she wanted to wear and couldn’t find. She now does her work out of a textile warehouse in Red Hook and we’re lucky fish indeed to have her! Come check out the great styles, from tunics and wraps to basic tees.

In other news, wouldn’t you (or someone you know) like $250 to spend at Show Pony? We’re hoping to get 1,000 Facebook fans, like our page and you could be the lucky fish. Please tell your mom, your sister, your friends—heck, tell your mister! What’s he gonna do with a Show Pony credit anyway? We might have a few ideas for him...

And for all of our lovely customers, we’re offering a 10% discount in our brand-spankin-new online shop when you use the code “showpony” through the end of June.

Move Over Meat Dress + $250 Shopping Spree!

Show Pony will feature clothing for a whole different taste at this year’s Solstice Fair when it hosts Seattle chef Tiberio Simone who will be accessorizing live models with food on Show Pony’s patio Sunday, July 19th from 3 to 6 p.m.

Chef Simone’s edible-art exhibit celebrates the release of his new book La Figa: Visions of Food & Form.  Melding memoir, essay, art and recipes, the book’s elegant and tasteful images are the culmination of a five-year collaboration between the James Beard Award-winner and Seattle photographer Matt Freedman. Using the human body as his canvas, and natural fresh ingredients as both paint and adhesives, Simone’s art is inspired by “a lifetime of loving food. Food is love, touch is affection, food and touch are the basic ingredients of life,” pronounces Simone who calls himself a “pleasure activist.”  Show Pony is one of the few Seattle retail outlets with advance copies of La Figa for sale and on Sunday you can meet Tiberio and get a signed copy!

Also, we are doing it again Ladies (and gents)! - This time it's called the "Thumbs Up" contest and a $250 shopping spree is at stake. We're trying to get to a 1000 "Likes" on Facebook. Spread the word!

First Friday Art Walk: Meet Artist Madison Brewton

It’s First Friday time in Fremont again! This week we’re welcoming Madison Brewton, a graphic designer and crazy, creative book artist who does fabulous pieces made from canvas, notebook paper and stitched string. Her art literally jumps off the wall at you with undulating waves of paper and typewritten messages. In addition to lots of local gallery love, her art was featured in Oprah at Home Magazine as well. Fancy! We know that we’ve never seen anything like it and we’re awfully crazy about it, so please do stop by for a glass of wine and check out this lady’s interesting work.

As for what’s on our racks, we’ve got new shipments of Weston Wear Dresses, some fabulous tops from Capote, new separates from A to Z, and lots of new consignment! (Have you seen the new consignment loft yet?)
